Candy Cane Vodka

Are you looking for a quick and easy handmade Christmas gift? Let me introduce you to Candy Cane vodka. A sweet minty drink, that works well on it’s own. However it’s also great with lemonade, or added to hot chocolate. I’m sure you can think of lots of other ways to use it and if you do, don’t forget to let me know!

Although you have to leave it for about 24 hours for the candy canes to break down, it only requires a few minutes hands on work! Firstly though you need to remember to sterilize your container and bottles. The easiest way to do this is a hot wash or steam in your dishwasher. If like me you don’t have a dishwasher then use your oven. Firstly wash your bottles in hot soapy water and rinse. Place in a low oven on greaseproof paper. Sterilize the lids by soaking in boiling water.

I used 12 small candy canes for approx 750ml of vodka. Put it all in a large bottle or jar and shake it up. Over the next day shake occasionally until the candy canes have disintegrated. Once the candy canes have dissolved you can decant into smaller bottles. These can be ones you have bought especially. Alternatively you could re-use bottles, again just make sure they are clean and have been sterilised. If you wish you can decorate the bottles with ribbon and small candy canes. Voila! Candy Cane Vodka, ready to drink or give as a gift.

We also have a recipe for Chocolate Hazelnut Liqueur, which will make you totally forget that you miss Baileys!
